The Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon have developed since they were held at the first meeting in 1877, witnessed by just a few hundred spectators. Now Wimbledon is a highly professional tournament attracting an attendance of almost 500,000 people. Players from over 60 nations regularly compete watched by a crowd of millions worldwide via the press, radio, the internet and television.
Wimbledon 2009 will run from 27th June to 5th July.
